Affirm Your Success! Affirmations and Proclamations can be a helpful and promising way to start each and every day. Setting your daily intentions to focus on the potential good that can happen in your life each day creates action and movement towards your desires. Allow me to relate a story that extends back to November 3, 2003—long before “The Secret” came out informing everyone of “ask, believe and receive”. Read More |

The Attitude of Gratitude Recently, being a little "down" (which thankfully happens only on the rare occasions) I sat and thought about how to get back to a more normal, positive outlook. The answer came quickly—express your gratitude and appreciation publicly on Facebook. I started posting 100 Days of Gratitude on my personal page, Scott Schilling (August 1st is day 70 of 100). Sometimes it IS the Journey! So, the jetlag has finally passed…I think. If you remember from our last blog, I spent 42 hours in a plane a week ago going to Singapore for a five-day seminar where I was a speaker. Yes, that’s a whirlwind trip in every single way, but you’ll never hear me complain about all that airtime. You can’t get from point A to your final destination without a little (or a lot) of groundwork. I’ve already told you about what happened at the destination, but that wasn’t the whole of the trip. Sometimes it is the journey that’s just as important. Read More |

Be a Pro! Imagine yourself in an airplane for 44 hours. To some that might sound like an eternity or torture, but to me it sounded like a prime opportunity. Last week, I was given the opportunity to speak in Singapore and without getting into the detail, I took a long ride and it didn’t turn out the way it was supposed to go. Some people might say, “After 44 hours in a plane, you didn’t get the results you wanted. What a shame. Weren’t you disappointed?” The answer is no. Read More |

A Pat On the Back...Before Getting Back At It A salesman and friend just made a rather large deal and I was thrilled because I had done work as his coach. He called me to tell me about it, but there was something in his voice that didn’t sound right. “Scott, it was one of the biggest deals of my career. It was worth a lot of money, but I could have done better. I could have sold them a bigger plan. Next time, I have to work even harder.” Read More |

How Do You Defeat Failure? This is the story of a man who did a sales workshop on a very busy Saturday in Dallas. There was a PGA tournament going on and several other major happenings that weekend, part of the reason why only 10 people showed up for his event. The man was a bit depressed. The word "bit" is an understatement. In fact, he started to beat himself up a lot. “Why did I pick that weekend?” he self criticized. “Anyone would have known that you should have chosen any other time. Why didn’t I plan it better?” Read More |

Who Are You Serving? I did a blog talk radio segment this week where the topic revolved around how selling is really serving. It amazed me that some of the people didn’t really understand that concept. Let me explain it to you. Any time there is a communication then you’re probably selling something whether it be a product, service or an idea. Yes, by just talking, a sale is going on. Now, your job today is to relax and let that one sink in. That’s it. Pretty simple. Just accept the fact that sales is communication and communication is sales. My exact Heart Centered Selling definition of selling is education through communication without manipulation. Read More |

Trumped! It’s that moment in time when it’s all on the line. Pulses are racing. You’re sitting on the edge of your seat and waiting with baited breath. Yes, it’s time to crown another celebrity apprentice. I have to admit that I like the Donald Trump NBC series where celebrities compete each week in teams to do sales tasks. Yes, this show is like Selling 101. Of course, there is a little twist. On the show, the salespeople are rich and famous and pampered people who are forced to do everything from selling lemonade to selling gourmet burgers for $100 a plate. All of the money goes to charity, and the celebs are often cutthroat when it comes to who will be the next celebrity apprentice. Read More |

Networking with Ease - Part 2 In our last blog, I told you about the importance of networking events. So you’ve paid your money to get into an event….now what? As someone who thinks these events are paramount to success, I’ll share with you’re the critical ways to network within them for ultimate success. *There are four critical ingredients in your introduction to people at networking events. Think of your pitch like a 20-second elevator meet-and-greet. Most people want to meet a maximum amount of people and don’t want to listen to anyone go on (and on and on) at length. Your job is to cover the four basics: Who you are; What you are; How you can help; Where you are. Read More |

You Are the Message I teach the following stats in my sales training courses: Your sales message is 7 percent the words, 38 percent tonality and 55 percent physiology. Those are pretty daunting numbers when you think about it because 55 percent is ON you and it's ALL you. The bottom line is simple: You are the message. This brings me to a recent segment I was asked to do on a Texas morning show. We asked three “models” of a certain type of person to appear with me as salespeople who would say just a few words and the same ones. One was overweight; the second was unemotional and the third was overstated. I trained them to each say the exact same words. The unemotional person had no inflection in his voice and no animation. The overweight person was quite nice and excited about the message. The overstated person, who incidentally was also lean, was also fired up and said the same words. Read More |
